Dick Maas

Dick Maas ( born April 15, 1951 in Heemstede ) is a Dutch film director, producer, screenwriter, and film composer.

Life and work

In 1977 Maas completed his film studies at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam successfully. His Summa cum laude degree were the two short films picnic and Adelbert, both of which were sent from Dutch television.

In 1981, he staged with Rigor Mortis his first feature film for Dutch television. Two years later he created with lift of horror his first feature film, which became a success in the Netherlands alone, with more than 900,000 visitors and Maas led to an award at the festival in the French Avoriaz.

For the Dutch rock band Golden Earring turned Maas 1982 video clip for the title "The Twilight Zone ". In 1984 he founded with Laurens Geels a film production company called First Floor features. In 1992, Maas for his collaboration with director and actor Alex van Warmerdam for the film " The North Erlinger " the European Film Award "Felix".

Dick Maas has also been active in Hollywood, so he staged in 1992 an episode of the television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones and the 1999 TV movie The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Masks of Evil.

In 2001 he filmed his feature film debut "elevator of Horror" as a new remake under the title down.

Overall, four times won the Gouden Kalf Dick Maas on the Nederlands Film Festival. He often makes movies with his fellow countryman Huub Stapel in the lead role.

Since Maas both guitar and piano playing, he is active also as a film composer.
