Dick Mol

Dick Mol ( born 1955 in Winterswijk ) is a mammoth expert from the Netherlands.

Career

Dick Mol collecting fossils since 1968. On his first visit to a museum in Leiden his interest in mammoths began when he saw there the extensive collection of mammoth fossils. In the media mole is called a paleontologist, researchers or scientists, although he has worked as a customs officer at Amsterdam -Schiphol Airport. At the customs, he is a specialist in fake branded products. In this role, he was seen in the 1990s in the television series " Schiphol Airport ". In the field of paleontology mole is considered a world of mammoths. His knowledge of these mammoths from the Ice Age (Pleistocene ) has earned him the nickname " Mister Mammoth ". Its collection includes more than 20,000 mammoth fossils.

Activities

Dick Mol is an honorary research associate of fossil mammals at the Natural History Museum Rotterdam. He worked at numerous excavations in Europe, Asia ( Siberia) and North America (Canada ) and in which mammoths and other animals were rescued from the ice age (about 2.6 million to 11,700 years ). He also collects findings of Ice Age animals that are going to be fishing in the North Sea, which was temporarily mainland ( " North Country " ), into the net, writes with renowned researchers, books, lectures, and is often seen on TV. 1999 came to Dick Mol, headed by Bernard Buigues excavation of Jarkov mammoths. Since 2000 he is a senior fellow and coordinator of the science team CERPOLEX / Mammuthus ( CERCLES polaires expedition ) that the study of the Pleistocene fossils of the Taimyr Peninsula in Siberia dedicated.

Honors

2002 Dick Mol Zittel received the Medal of the Palaeontological Society for his contributions to paleontology.
