Dick Pope (cinematographer)

Richard " Dick" C. Pope ( * Summer 1947 in Bromley ) is a British cinematographer. In 2007 he received for his work on the film The Illusionist an Oscar nomination.

Life

Born in the third quarter of 1947, Pope has been involved since the beginning of 1980 in more than 50 films as a cameraman. One of his first films was the film adaptation of George Orwell's 1984. For his work on the TV series Porterhouse Blue 1988 he was nominated for a BAFTA Award. In 1990, Pope at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya the prize for best cinematography in the movie cry in silence.

With Life Is Sweet 1991 began a long-standing collaboration with the Popes British director Mike Leigh, for whom he appeared in numerous movies such as Naked, Topsy Turvy - - Upside Down or Happy-Go- Lucky the camera work took over. For Leigh's films Secrets and Lies and Vera Drake Pope won the CamerImage, a Polish film festival specifically for cinematographers, 1996 and 2004 each have a golden frog. 1999 won Leigh and Pope at this festival even a special prize for the best collaboration between director and cinematographer. As early as 1995 Pope was nominated for the movie Limitless hatred for a Golden Frog.

2006 Pope worked for director Neil Burger to the movie The Illusionist. For this he was nominated for the Academy Awards in 2007 for an Oscar for Best Cinematography. He also won prizes at the Camerimage Festival, at the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards, and also received a nomination at the Awards of the American Society of Cinematographers.
