Dick Raaymakers

Dick Raaijmakers ( born September 1, 1930 in Maastricht, † September 4, 2013 in The Hague) was a Dutch composer, performance and installation artist.

Life and work

Raaijmakers studied until 1953 at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. From 1954 to 1960 he worked at Philips in the field of electro-acoustics, after which he was until 1962 a research associate at the Rijksuniversiteit te Utrecht. From 1963 to 1966 he operated with Jan Boerman a studio for electroacoustic music in The Hague. Until 1995, he taught electronic music, from 1991 on electronic music for musical theater at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

In the early 1960s composed Raaijmakers a series of electro-acoustic works such vijf canons, Flux and Plumes. Between 1967 and 1972 " photokinetic objects" that were issued in 1971 at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and 1972 at the Gemeentemuseum The Hague originated. In 1976, De graphical method tractor and 1979 De fiets graphical method, two pieces, which were based on the work of film pioneer Etienne -Jules Marey. 1977 was the audiovisual production Mao leve! .

Between 1981 and 1984, Raaijmakers created a series of productions for tape, film, theater and percussion ensemble revolving around the film Night Owls of Laurel and Hardy ( Shhh!, The Microman, The Soundman, The Sound Wall, Ow! , And Come on! ). The series, which Raaijmakers composed the music, was in 1984 at the Holland Festival listed.

1983 was ping-pong, a stereo radio production through a table tennis match between Louis Andriessen and Cornelis de Bondt. The following year, ecstasy was performed (in memoriam Josine van Droffelaar ) for which the Raaijmakers Matthijs Vermeulenprijs received. In 1985 he designed a Neonplastik for the new building of the Municipal Conservatory of Groningen.

In the 1990s, a number of works for the musical theater was: intonation (1991 ), Depons / The Fall (1992 ), The Golden Touch / opened ( 1993), The Fall / Depons (1993 ), De Promenoir van Mondriaan, (1994 ), De val van Mussolini (1995) and scouring the Hague ( 1995).
