Dick Savitt

Richard " Dick" Savitt ( born March 4, 1927 in Bayonne, New Jersey ) is a former American professional tennis player.

In 1951, Savitt won both the Australian Open and at Wimbledon and finished the year as world ranking second. 1951 was the only year in which he competed in the Davis Cup for the United States. After his victory at the U.S. National Indoor Singles Championships 1952 he ended his athletic career. In 1956 he returned briefly to the tennis scene. In 1961 he took part in the 6th Maccabiah Games and won both the individual as well, along with Mike Franks, in double gold.

Savitt was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1976. In 1979, he induction into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
