Dick Smith (make-up artist)

Richard " Dick" Smith ( born June 26, 1922 in Larchmont, New York) is an American makeup artist for special effects.

Life

Dick Smith is a pioneer and innovator of modern makeup and craft began in the 1940s to work on the American television, where he quickly assumed a senior position and was able to assure the reputation of a highly talented and skilled craftsman. Many, today almost unchanged common techniques and materials go partly back to his work. In 1964 he published a textbook entitled Dick Smith 's Do -It-Yourself Monster Make-up Handbook, which was many years as a reference work and countless colleagues influenced.

Today, Smith is considered the founder of modern Effektschminkens and offers in the U.S. own education at. Including his techniques for skin aging including through foamed latex parts are ( used among others for Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man, where he was first put multiple parts, Marlon Brando in The Godfather and Max von Sydow in The Exorcist ) as groundbreaking and his for taxi Driver developed formulation ( Dick Smith formula ) for fake blood, consisting of corn syrup, zinc oxide, red and yellow food coloring, surfactants ( Kodak Photo -Flo ) and water, and since the early 1980s in the Special makeup industry has prevailed. Smith is married since 1944 with Jocelyn De Rosa, with whom he has two children.
