Dick van Dijk began his career in 1963 at Voetbal Vereniging Schiedamse (now FC Dordrecht ) in the Tweede Divisie. At the end of the season 1965/66 the club was promoted to the Eerste Divisie. After constantly good performances, van Dijk got attention of Eredivisie clubs. In the summer of 1967 he finally undertook the FC Twente Enschede. Already in the previous year Twente striker tried the SIA needs to leave, but the negotiations failed due to the then high transfer fee. In Enschede, van Dijk put through right away and scored in the first five games seven goals. Along with Theo Pahlplatz he made the former FC - storm. With a total of 22 hits the attacker led his new team to eighth place in the Eredivisie. The following year, these benefits were even exceeded and van Dijk was with 30 hits together with Ove Kindvall top scorer of the Dutch league. Most notable was his hat-trick on November 3, 1968, when you could beat Ajax 5-1. For the season 1969/70 he finally committed Ajax, where he played for three years from now. In Enschede still celebrated as the star of the team, he was in Amsterdam, only one of the stars and he had to change his game and compete for the starting place. In his first season van Dijk came up with 23 goals in 32 games. One of his most important matches for Ajax scored the attacker on 1 June 1971 at the final of the European Champion Clubs' Cup, when he was able to take a 1-0 lead scoring against Panathinaikos after just five minutes. The match was won 2-0. It was Ajax 's first success in this competition. In addition, he was the national championship in 1970 and in the same year and the following year won the KNVB Cup. Since he was usually alternating players in the 1970/71 season, van Dijk decided in the summer of 1971 to move abroad and signed with French side OGC Nice. There, too, he scored goals regularly. After two years he moved for his final season as a professional footballer to Spain for Real Murcia.

National

Dick van Dijk made ​​his national team debut on 26 March 1969, at the game against Luxembourg. In his first game for the Netherlands, the attacker was able to score a goal.

  • Because of a bacterial inflammation of the heart, which he picked up in a hospital, died in the former Dutch international on 8 July 1997 by a sudden death.
