Dick Voorn

Dick " cookie" Voorn ( born October 29, 1948 in Uithoorn ) is a Dutch football coach and former professional player. In the 2009/10 season, he is an assistant coach of the Dutch Bond coach Bert van Marwijk.

Career

His nickname " Cookie" was Voorn, after his family had moved from the west of the Netherlands to Maastricht. They were there as the " Hollandse koekenbakkers " means; it initiated his comrades from the nickname " Cook" for his older brother and "Cookie" for the younger Dick. At the age of 17 years in 1965 wrote Voorn his first professional contract with MVV Maastricht. But he came into the first team not continuously used. The left-sided player, who started as a striker, was quickly retrained to full-back. In 1969 he moved to the Belgian second division side SK Tongeren, for whom he played six years. With this club he experienced each with a promotion and relegation. His greatest success as a player was a cup final with SK Tongeren, which was lost, however. As early as 1975, at the age of 27, he had to end his professional career due to a back injury.

During his professional career earned Dick " cookie" Voorn coaches certificates to the highest Dutch level. After the end of his career, he worked first as a coach in the Belgian Maaseik and Blizen s Swift in Roermond, before he first joined in 1978 as a youth coach at Fortuna Sittard through contact with his former teammates MVV Willy Quad Ackers. However, he was soon assistant to the then coach Joop Cast Miller. 26 years he was assistant coach of Fortuna under a number of head coaches, who included George Kessler, Frans Körver, Bert Jacobs, Hans van Doorneveld and Bert van Marwijk. For the season 2004 /05 he joined as an assistant van Marwijk to Borussia Dortmund. He also spent a year as a scout for Feyenoord Rotterdam. There he was again working as a van Marwijk's assistant since the summer of 2007. In summer 2008, he followed van Marwijk also the Dutch national team.

Voorns biggest success to date was reaching the Dutch Cup finals in 1999 with Fortuna Sittard.

Private

Dick Voorn has been married for more than 30 years and has a daughter and a son, Ramon. This has also become a professional soccer player; he plays since 2007 in the second division of the Netherlands at Fortuna Sittard.
