Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships

The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships ( DANFS ) is the reference book on the warships of the United States Navy. It was published in nine volumes in the period from 1951 until 1991. It describes the history of each ship of the U.S. Navy. The history of about 7,000 U.S. Navy ships is listed there. Meanwhile DANFS is also available online.

The publisher is the United States Department of the Navy, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Naval History Division.
