Dicziunari Rumantsch Grischun

The Dicziunari RG, abbreviated DRG, is the largest dictionary of Rätoromania and describes the in the Swiss canton of Grisons spoken and written Romansh dialects and written idioms. The term RG in this context means the Romansh spoken in Grisons ' and is not to be confused with the created in the late 20th century national written language RG.

Type

The Dicziunari RG is, next to the Swiss Idiotikon ( Zurich ), the Glossaire the patois de la Suisse Romande (Neuchâtel ) and the Vocabolario dei dialetti della Svizzera italiana ( Bellinzona ), one of four national Dictionaries and thus one of the many volumes on scientific developed based lexicographical reference works in Switzerland. It documents both the Romansh local dialects as well as the five Romansh written idioms over a period from the 16th century to the present day and also puts a strong focus on the description properly and ethnological conditions. Definition language is German.

History, carrier and editorship

The Dicziunari RG was founded in 1904 by the still functioning as a carrier association Societad Retorumantscha and the Indo-European scholars Robert von Planta. Using questionnaires collected Robert von Planta and Florian Melcher together with Chasper desk the basis of the linguistic material, which even today is the base for the dictionary work. The second pillar are the excerpts from the printed literature to be considered up to the first written works in the early 16th century.

Dictionary is published IDRG, abbreviated by the companies domiciled in Chur Institute dal Dicziunari RG. Funding is provided primarily by the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, along with contributions by the canton of Graubünden and the sale of own publications.

The Institute dal Dicziunari RG publishes not only the dictionary, but also has an extensive photo library, which is composed of several collections: The collection farmhouse research includes 7000 buildings recordings and sketches as well as 100 village plans, the collection DRG 8000 images of rural culture and working environment of Graubünden the collection Walram Derichsweiler 1600 glass slides to life in Surselva 1910-1930, the collection Christian and Hans Meisser 5000 landscape and village recordings from 1895 to 1934, the collection Alfons Maissen 5000 and the collection Willy Zeller 700 graubündenKULTUR related photographs; in addition to around 300 drawings and sketches of various origins.
