Didier Défago

Didier Defago ( born October 2, 1977 in Morgins ) is a Swiss ski racer. He specializes mainly on the speed disciplines Downhill and Super- G, but also drives the giant slalom and super outfits. His younger brother Daniel was also a ski racer.

Biography

Defago took at the age of six years for the first time participated in a ski race. His debut in the European Cup he gave in January 1996 On March 7 of the same year he played his first World Cup race. ; in Norway Hafjell he reached the 15th place in the giant slalom. At the Junior World Championships in 1996 in high -Ybrig he won the silver in the giant slalom and bronze in the super -G gold, in the combination.

In subsequent seasons, Defago did not match these first successes. It was not until 2000 he succeeded regularly in the World Cup rankings in the top ten. On 3 March 2002, he reached third in the Super -G in Kvitfjell first podium. His first victory in the World Cup he achieved on 20 December 2002, when he won a super-G in Val Gardena. During World Ski Championships 2007, he finished fourth in the super combined. Defago is two times Swiss champion (2003 in Downhill, Giant Slalom 2004 ).

In mid-September 2010, Défago suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during training in Zermatt. For this reason, he missed the entire season 2010/11. After over a year break he succeeded the comeback when he won the downhill on the Pista Stelvio in Bormio first Swiss. On January 26, 2014 he won the super -G in Kitzbuhel for themselves.
