Didier Opertti

Didier Opertti Badan (* 1937 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan politician. He is a former interior minister and foreign minister of his country and initiated in 1998/99 as president of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Life

Bandan is a lawyer, Professor of Private International Law and Doctor of Social Sciences. He works from the 1960s to the 1980s in Uruguay as a lawyer. From 1988 to 1993, was his country's ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS ) in Washington. From 1 March 1995 to February 2, 1998 he was Minister of the Interior and of 2 February 1998 to March 1, 2005 Foreign Minister of his country.

Opertti sat in 1999 as Secretary of State before the Uruguay Mercosur and was elected in 1998 by the UN General Assembly for one year as its president. In the elections in the fall of 2004, the government was voted out of office so that his term ended he remained to the end of February of the year 2005; since he is the General Secretary of the Latin American Integration Association.

Opertti is also a member since 1997 of the International Law Commission of the United Nations. Opertti is married and has four children.
