Didier Plaschy

Didier Plaschy ( born 2 May 1973 in Varen ) is a retired Swiss ski racer. He drove exclusively giant slalom and slalom, but he scored two World Cup victories and an additional podium. Since his retirement he has been active as a coach.

Biography

Sports career

For the first time internationally in appearance Plaschy joined the Junior World Championship in 1992 in Maribor, where he won the silver medal in the slalom. She then served in FIS and Europa Cup races. His first race in the World Cup, he played on 20 December 1994, Lech. The next day he could win first World Cup points as 28 of the slalom in Lech.

During the 1997/98 season Plaschy the breakthrough: On January 6, 1998, he reached sixth of the giant slalom in Saalbach -Hinterglemm, the best result of his career in this discipline. In the European Cup, he was with two slalom wins and three additional podium finishes third in the overall standings. In the slalom standings, he was beaten by one point to the winner Benjamin Raich.

In the World Cup season 1998/99 could Plaschy successes in Kitzbuehel (2nd place), celebrate Wengen ( 5th place) and in the Sierra Nevada ( 4th place). He finished the season off on the 7th place in the slalom discipline standings. He had his most successful season in winter 1999/2000, when he won the World Cup slalom in Kranjska Gora and Vail. There were two further Top 10 rankings, from which finally resulted in the 8th place in the slalom standings. His successes achieved Plaschy all on skis the brand Stöckli.

These successes could not confirm Plaschy. He was one of the last skier who won slalom ski World Cup races with long (186 cm). Its competitors drove in the following season 2000/ 01 with skis that were about 20 cm shorter. Resignation and comeback attempt

After time as Active Plaschy was first in the National Training Center ( ODT ) employed in Brig as a ski coach. He is in charge athletes the group " Ouest " of NLZ. Then, his change was followed by the World Cup team, for whom he worked as a coach.
