Didier Zokora

Didier Zokora ( born December 14, 1980 in Abidjan ) is an Ivorian football player and most capped player in his country. The technically savvy midfielder Zokora is called by his fans Maestro. At the Africa Cup 2013 he was called Maestro, instead of Zokora, on his jersey.

Career

Association

In 2000, he left his home to become a professional football player in the Belgian Erstdivisionär KRC Genk. In 2004 he moved to France to the traditional club AS Saint- Étienne. With the national team, he failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. For the 2006/07 season Zokora switched to the English top club Tottenham Hotspur. After three years and 134 appearances for the Spurs, he joined the 2009/10 season with the Spanish club Sevilla FC.

Since the season 2011/12 Zokora plays for the Turkish first division side Trabzonspor.

National

In central midfield, the national team of the Ivory Coast, he has the task not only for the build-up play, but is also the organizer of the defense. In the National Zokora played under coach Sven -Goran Eriksson as a central defender, since this position was considered a weak point of the team. On Zokoras actual position in midfield the team, however, was busy enough. With the Football World Cup 2010 thus Zokora held the second center-back alongside Kolo Toure. Already in his time at ASEC Mimosas he had formed with Toure in central defense.

In March 2012, Zokora announced that he would no longer play for the national team of the Ivory Coast. However, he returned after a few months back and was nominated for the African Nations Cup 2013.

On October 11, 2012, the Ivorian Football Federation honored him for 135 caps and awarded him and Kolo Touré ( for 115 games) a jersey with the back number "100".
