Didot (typeface)

1800 D. Stempel AG, Frankfurt / M. through the acquisition of a foundry; before 1900 Julius Klinkhardt, Leipzig; 1919 H. Berthold AG, Berlin

The Didot is a typical classical roman font. The first designs were created by François Didot (1689-1757), the grandson Firmin Didot and his brother Pierre Didot further developed the script. 1788 the Didot Antiqua was first cast. On Pierre Didot's designs based the cast of the H. Berthold AG Didot Antiqua.

The Didot has the characteristic of classicism line thickness differences. The set -acting serifs are kept fine in comparison to the classic Bodoni and Walbaum published in 1800.
