The Fussbroichs is the title of a documentary series about the Cologne Workers Family Fred, Annemie and Frank Fussbroich, which was filmed from 1989 to 2001 for WDR television. It is considered the first German TV docu-soap. The author, director and producer Ute Diehl Award for the series in 1992 with the Adolf Grimme Prize.

Background: A child's room 1979

The WDR director Ute Diehl sought for a planned documentary in Cologne comprehensive schools after a typical German working class family to represent the abundance of toys at that time children. She found the Fussbroichs to which the socio- cultural conditions of the broadcast on August 19, 1979 A children's show in 1979 were true. Television presented herein, the children of the then eleven year old son Frank Fussbroich.

Pilot in 1989 and Series 1990 to 2001

The father was a foreman at the Cologne Kabelwerk Felten & Guilleaume where his son worked as a fitter at the beginning of the series, but later repeatedly changed his profession. Annemie 's secretary at the Education Authority of the City of Cologne. All persons were genuine, just as the plot and dialogue. There was no screenplays; the Fussbroichs could be filming situational in their lives.

With 100 episodes of 30 minutes each transmission time in 17 seasons the long-term evolution of the family for birthdays, retirement, job loss, vacations or illnesses could be traced in 10 years rotation work. The 99th episode was presented in the 17th season in February 2002, followed at Christmas 2003, the last, 100th episode, which also still came from 17 Squadron. The Fussbroichs today

Frank Fussbroich 2004 was the candidate of the fifth season of Big Brother, and in November 2010, participants of the program The perfect celebrity dinner. He is married and lives in Vettweiß. Fred and Annemie Fussbroich still live in Cologne. Fred went into early retirement in 1997 ( episode 66: The last layer ); Annemie Fussbroich worked until retirement at the city council of Cologne.
