Die Pyramide

The pyramid is a 1994/1995 built high-rise building in Berlin's Marzahn - Heller village, district of Marzahn, at the intersection Rhinstraße / Landsberger Allee. The office building and the adjoining outbuildings have a combined floor space of 43,800 m². It was built by the Fundus Group from Düren for around 145 million euros. Official completion date was 17 January 1995. With a height of 100 meters it is the tallest building in the entire district.

Building Description

The two- bladed main building has 23 floors and stands out for its architecture, which has integrated a pyramid-like glass facade in the really ordinary-looking building. The pyramid itself constitutes an oversized Chronometer

Are located on the upper floors of the west facade of the main building in green light strips hour and minute display. The pyramid-like glass facade on the north side includes the display of seconds (blue light bars; each per second left and right of the glass facade of a lamp more). Every full minute a flash of light is emitted from the tip. The pyramid is the largest clock in Europe. The clock from early 2006 to December 2007 and since the beginning of 2009 is inoperative.

Owner and Terms

To finance the building, a closed-end property fund was launched by the fund group. Due to absence of surpluses due to the low utilization was the investors of the fund group accused of fraud. They stated that the rentable area had been stated in the Prospectus to be too large and hence the rental income was overestimated. Fundus Group reported these allegations back as incorrect.

In 2006, the investor sold the building to the Comer Group International. The British real estate company has placed its continental European office in the pyramid. 350 employees occupy while around one third of the area. In two floors in an annexe building a business hotel with 70 rooms is set up. These attracted few tenants in progressive.

The Department of Culture of the district office Marzahn- Heller village maintains in the pyramid an exhibition center, which will also be used for other cultural events.
