Diebling

Diebling ( German: Thief Lingen ) is a commune with 1653 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Forbach, in the canton of Behren- lès -Forbach and the Local Government Association, Forbach Porte de France.

Geography

Diebling located about nine kilometers west of Sarreguemines and ten kilometers southeast of Forbach, near the border with Saarland at an altitude of 240 m above sea level in the valley of the bar brook, which flows like running to the south of the municipality Altwiesenbach few kilometers east in the Saar.

History

The village name comes from a Frankish warrior who belonged to a settled colony in Strichbachtal. About Dubelange ( 1272 ) and Duebling ( late 16th century ) changed the spelling of the name to Diebling - in the period under German administration ( 1870-1918 and from 1940 to 1944 ) was the village thief Lingen.

Church of St. Wendelin

It is believed that there was a simple oratory or chapel in honor of St. Wendelin in the 11th or 12th century. At the latest in 1423 is evidenced by the founding of the Brotherhood of St. Wendelin that a chapel existed, which was at times even pilgrimage. Residents thief compact but were part of the parish in Tenteling and so they went for a long time the two-kilometer Kirchweg in the higher-lying neighboring village. Only in 1775 was the church in Diebling her first pastor. The present church dates from 1826. Two of the three bells were from the old chapel. 1838 an organ was purchased. The stained glass windows created 1890-1904 in a Munich workshop. Twice - in 1917 and 1943 - the bells were confiscated and melted down by the Germans; the ringing today were cast in 1957.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture and fruit still play a subordinate role in Diebling. In the town itself there are a number of small craft and service companies. Many residents commute to the surrounding industrial and commercial areas.

By Diebling the busy trunk road D 910 leads from Sarreguemines to Saint -Avold. The railway line Haguenau - Sarreguemines - Hargarten runs through Diebling, but pick-up points only exist on the nearby communities dog Ling and Loupershouse.
