Geography

Location

Diedenshausen is located about nine kilometers from Bad Berleburg. The village is situated 460-650 meters above sea level, the surrounding mountains, there are up to 674 meters high. It lies in the southeast of the Rothaargebirge. The creek flows through the village Elsoff and forms the border with Hesse. Behind it lies the settlement Seibel Bach, which belongs to the municipality Bromskirchen.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1194 as Diethennishusen, as part of a testimony of the knight Godebert of Diedenshausen.

The knight dynasty of Diedenshausen dies from about 1400. As a result, the village falls like many others from its possession ( deserted ).

Around 1500, the repopulation of the village begins.

Since 1532 Diedenshausen border village, the Elsoff forms the natural border between the county of Wittgenstein and Hesse, then between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Hesse. After the Second World War, it was also the demarcation line between British and American occupation zone.

The lawyer Johannes Althusius was in 1563 Schulze- house ( present address: To Saale 1) was born.

On September 21, 1632 the village burns down completely.

In 1724 emigrated Daniel Womelsdorf (* 1703 Diedenshausen, Schmitte - house; † 1758, Pennsylvania) was the first to America. His son, John Womelsdorf, is the founder of Womelsdorf (Pennsylvania).

On June 28, 1973, the church burns, but is set up to Good Friday in 1974 by active cooperation of the population repaired.

As part of the municipal restructuring Diedenshausen came on 1 January 1975 to Bad Berleburg.

In 1994, the population is celebrating the 800 th anniversary Diedenshausens.

1998 Diedenshausen was in the national competition Our village is beautiful, our village has excellent future with a gold plaque. Since 1977 Diedenshausen had participated continuously in the competition.

On 7 March 1999, the Heritage House Diedenshausen is inaugurated. There the history of the village and his family should be documented. By 2011, 34 exhibitions were shown.
