Geography

The place is located about 8 km west of Augsburg. By Diedorf the Schmutter flows.

To Diedorf include the districts Anhausen, Biburg, Hausen, creping, Lettenbach, Oggenhof, Vogelsang ( part Vogelsang however belongs to the city Neusaess ) and Willi Hausen.

History

Diedorf was first documented in the year 1056. The place was until the 13th century belonged to the Lords of Diedorf until they became extinct. 1264 acquired the Dominican convent of St. Catherine in Augsburg by Reichsmarschall Heinrich von Pappenheim and his wife, whose goods and the Bailiwick in Diedorf. 1579 described the monastery as a village lord. After the secularization of the place came in 1806 with the Kingdom of Bavaria. 1860 Diedorf became an independent parish. The community Diedorf was raised on 2 March 1996 on the market.

Incorporations

On 1 May 1978, the formerly independent communities Anhausen, Biburg and Willi Hausen were integrated into the community Diedorf.

Attractions

On the grounds of the elementary and middle school is the in charge of an amateur astronomical observatory Diedorf Association. Near the observatory is also a piece of the Berlin Wall.

In Diedorf there are four church buildings:

  • Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew: 1736 constructed to replace an earlier house of worship; the basement of the old church tower dates from the earlier building from the late Romanesque period. The upper floor of the tower are the remains of medieval frescoes. Until 1967, St. Bartholomew Parish Church, today it is a popular wedding church.
  • Catholic church Heart of Mary: According to the plans of architect Josef Mindelheimer reputation built and inaugurated in 1967.
