Diego de San Pedro

Diego de San Pedro ( * 1437, † 1498) was a Spanish poet and author of romances.

Life

San Pedro was probably of Jewish descent. Overall, little is known about his life. His two written in prose romances " Arnalte y Lucenda " ( 1491 ) and "La cárcel de amor" ( 1492) were influenced by similar works by Italian authors, especially of Giovanni Boccaccio's " Fiammetta ". The works developed the theme of the faithful lover, they were widespread and popular. They were translated into Italian, French and English. San Pedro wrote next to poems, including a popular story of the death of Christ.
