Diego Ribas da Cunha, called Diego ( born February 28, 1985 in Ribeirão Preto ), is a Brazilian- Italian footballer who stands since January 2014 with Atlético Madrid under contract.

Club career

In Brazil

Diego began at age six when Comercial FC Ribeirao Preto playing football and then played three years at Paulistinha Sao Carlos. At age eleven, he was brought to the youth department of FC Santos. Subsequently, he was active for the first team of Santos and won in 2000 and 2003, the Brazilian championship.

FC Porto

In summer 2004, Diego moved for a transfer fee of around eight million euros for the Portuguese first division club FC Porto, where he should replace its lost to FC Barcelona Deco. But here he came infrequently used.

Werder Bremen

In summer 2006, Diego moved for about six million euros to Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga, where he signed a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2010. Before that time, Miroslav Klose, who joined in 2004 for five million Euro from 1 FC Kaiserslautern to Bremen, as from up to then the most expensive transfer of the club's history. Return to Wolfsburg

After his loan contract expiry Diego returned to the 2012/13 season to Wolfsburg back. After no new employer had been found for the playmaker to coach Felix Magath decided to go with Diego in the season. Diego also apologized in an open letter for his misconduct in May 2011 and expressed his gratitude for his second chance at VfL.

Return to Madrid

On January 31, 2014 Diego returned half a year before his contract end in Wolfsburg in the Primera División for Atlético Madrid back. National

Diego played for the first time on 30 April 2003 against Mexico in the Brazilian national team. 2008 Olympics

For the 2008 Summer Olympics Diego was nominated on July 8, 2008 by coach Carlos Dunga.
