Diepflingen

Diepflingen is a municipality in the district of Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

History

Diepflingen became known during the separation of the two half-cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Country in 1833 by the fact that the municipality assumed after a close vote directly the Diet of the Swiss Confederation. However, this does not recognized the decision, and so it was with the " Republic Diepflingen " after nine days already over. In the vernacular, the Diepflinger are still referred to as "Republicans ".

Diepflingen initially held true to Basel, which has been exposed to enemy attacks during the turmoil of separation 1833 Gelterkinden. To escape the constant threat, the village declared on May 20, 1833 Republic of neutral Diepflingen. However, this had only a short period of 9 days because the confederate diet threatened with the use of the army. The village name was first mentioned in 1251 as Dyephlinchon. ( Court of Dietphalinge ) was added to Dietphalinchova, Dietphlikon, and then Diepfliken as the locals call it today. New residents call it Diepfligen and some " Neudiepfliker " even Diepflingen as the spelling, what the old locals each hair stand on end. From the settlement history was the discovery of a tomb from the La Tene period, comprising neck ring made ​​of bronze, five complete and two incomplete early La Tene fibulae mentioned. Other findings indicate the presence of a Roman villa.
