Dieter Korn

Dieter Korn ( * 1958 in Sundern ) is a German geologist and paleontologist.

He studied from 1990 to 1994 at the University of Tübingen and received his PhD in 1996. His dissertation was titled The Palaeozoic ammonoids of the South Portuguese Zone, Their stratigraphy and pelaeogeographical position. Since 2002 he has worked as a curator of Paleozoic invertebrates ( cephalopods ) at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.

Grain derived from the Sauerland region, where he was already extensive collections made Paleozoic ammonoids at a young age. His research interests are in the field of stratigraphy of Paleozoic sediments, the Faunenvergesellschaftungen Paleozoic invertebrates, phylogeny and evolution of ammonoids, and the analysis of Faunenschnitten and extinction events of the late Paleozoic ( Frasnian - Famennian boundary, Devonian Carboniferous, Permian-Triassic ). Grain has more than 100 scientific publications written ( including 5 books) and is active in many countries ( North Africa, United States, Iran).
