Dieter Kurrat

Dieter " Hoppy " Kurrat ( born May 15, 1942 in Dortmund ) is a former German football player.

Life

Kurrat is a native of Dortmund; his father had a small freight forwarding company in the northern city near the Borsig place. Prior to his professional career Kurrat learned the profession of a mastermind at Hoesch AG. During the first years of his football career, he worked at the Dortmunder Hansa Brewery.

Career

At the age of 15 years his talent by the then coach of BVB, Max Merkel, was discovered and he went from the Dortmund club FC Mercury to Borussia Dortmund. He moved at age 18 to the professionals of the BVB after his mother had signed a professional contract. Kurrat played from 1956 to 1974 continuously at Borussia Dortmund and has been used in midfield and in defense. He played 612 times for the Borussia, of which 247 top-flight appearances and scored nine goals there. In the German national football team he came on June 25, 1965 use in the U -23 youth team of the DFB. He was also six times used in the DFB youth selection.

Popular he was in Dortmund, both because of its great fighters heart and because of its small body size: With 1.62 m, it was one of the smallest player in the Bundesliga. Germany coach Helmut Schön supposed to have said about him when he was a head taller, he could achieve a regular place in the national team.

With all the great successes of the BVB 1960-1966 Kurrat was a regular player there. In 1963 he scored in the final of the German Cup against 1 FC Cologne 1-0. Between 1971 and 1974 Kurrat was also the team captain. Well-funded professional contract with Hertha BSC and Atalanta refused Kurrat from out of club loyalty.

As Borussia relegation in 1972, was " Hoppy " the last active for Borussia European champions. In 1974 he also took over the short term, the Borussia coach and changed according to the season as player-coach for SV Holzwickede, with whom he was in 1976 German amateur champion. He coached Holzwickede between March 1973 and June 1978 and again between November 1982 and March 1984.

Kurrat became the first BVB Active farewell game at the Westfalen stadium. In July 1974, BVB was up against a selection of Bundesliga players. Even today, claiming Kurrat and connoisseurs of the scene that followed this event at least 20,000 spectators. The statement can be read but that only 12,000 visitors attend the game for Kurrat. Therefore Kurrat received only relatively disappointing 40,000 marks, although he had only a few months previously dispensed 25,000 Mark loyalty bonus because of the disastrous situation of the club.

After the career

By 2012, Hoppy Kurrat ran a restaurant ( " Hoppy's Meeting" ) in Holzwickede. He also serves on the Council of Elders of Borussia Dortmund.

Private

" Hoppy " Kurrat is married and has two children. His younger brother, Hans -Jürgen was also active as a football player for Borussia and completed 1963/64, a football game and one in the European Champions Cup.
