Dieter Mann

Dieter Mann (born 20 June 1941 in Berlin ) is a German theater and film actor.

Dieter man was from 1964 to 2006 member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. From 1984 to 1991 he was artistic director of the Deutsches Theater and took, among others, Frank Castorf and Heiner Müller as directors at the house. Engagements as a guest actor took him to the German Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the spectacle of Frankfurt, the Vienna Festival, the Saxon State Opera Dresden and at the Dresden State Theatre, the Bregenz Festival, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and the Vienna Burgtheater. In addition, he has worked on many theater, television and radio productions.

Professional career

After attending elementary school and an apprenticeship as a turner from 1955 to 1957, he worked as a skilled worker in a Berlin factory. After reaching the Abitur at the Workers 'and Peasants' Faculty " Friedrich Engels " he began in 1962 to study at the State Drama School in Berlin. While still a student, he was obliged in 1964 by Friedo Solter at the German Theatre (DT ) and had his first major success as Volodya in the way of Victor Rosow.

At the Deutsches Theater, he played a variety of roles in contemporary and classical pieces, including the Knights Templar in Nathan the Clavigo, the Edgar Wibeau in The New Sufferings of Young W., the Truffaldino in Goldoni's Servant of Two Masters, the Ariel in the Midsummer Night's Dream, the Wehrhahnlinie in Hauptmann's beaver fur, Creon in Antigone by Sophocles and Odysseus in Ithaca by Botho Strauss. He has also performed solo with literary evenings.

As a guest Dietermann is after leaving the firm commitment of the German theater still remained connected and also occurs currently on in various roles at the Berliner Ensemble and the Dresden State Theatre. Honors

Dieter has been a member of the Academy of Arts. In 2004 he received the rare distinction conferred an honorary member of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. In 1984 he was awarded the National Prize of the GDR II class for art and literature.
