Dieter Semetzky

Dieter Semetzky ( born November 3, 1949 in Dresden ) is a former coxswain in rowing from the German Democratic Republic. In 1968 he won the silver medal in the coxed four at the Olympic Games.

Semetzky was 1965-1968 helmsman SC Einheit Dresden under Hans Eckstein. In 1965 he drove the Dresdner roller with Frank Forberger, Dieter Grahn, Peter Kremtz, Frank Rühle, Klaus Jacob, Manfred Gelpke, Dieter Schubert and Roland Göhler to second place in the East German championship. Forberger, Rühle, Grahn and Schubert won from 1965 to 1968, the East German championship in the coxless four in 1966 were the four rowers in addition together with Semetzky than four with coxswain at the East German Championship and finished third.

In 1968 the aft of the SC Einheit Dresden with the same staff as the runner-up in 1965 the East German championship, in addition won Kremtz, Goehler, Jacob and Gelpke together with Semetzky in the four with coxswain. At the 1968 Olympic Games both Dresdner four for the GDR competed. On the regatta course of Xochimilco of four without any gold, with four won silver behind the New Zealanders won. For winning the silver medal Semetzky was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Semetzky later earned a captain's license and drove a decade at sea. From 1985, he headed a holiday hotel, after the turn, he ran a travel company in Dresden.
