Dieter Vieweger

Dieter Vieweger ( born May 8, 1958 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a German theologian ( Old Testament ) and Biblical archaeologist who teaches at universities in Wuppertal and Witten- Herdecke. He is director of scientific institutes in Jerusalem and Amman, as well as at the University of Wuppertal.

Life

Schools and Universities

Vieweger was expelled for political reasons the school ( EOS Theodor Neubauer, Karl- Marx-Stadt ) 1974. He then attended a state not recognized educational institution of the Evangelical Church in Saxony ( Proseminar Moritzburg ). There he passed his matriculation examination in 1976 at the Church Seminar Moritzburg near Dresden. Since he was not allowed to attend university, he studied from 1976 to 1981 at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig.

After the first theological examination in 1981 he graduated from 1981 to 1982 the Vicariate and the Katechetikum at the Saxon church. From 1982 to 1986 he worked as an assistant at the Theological Seminary of Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1986 at Siegfried Wagner and Wolfram Herrmann at the former Karl -Marx- University of Leipzig with Scripture The specifics of Appeals Reports Jeremiah and Ezekiel in the context of similar units of the Old Testament.

Rectory and theological doctrine

1986-1989 Dieter Vieweger was pastor of the Thomas' Boys Choir Leipzig. In 1987 he was ordained at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. In 1989 he qualified as a professor at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with the font, the literary relationships between the books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel. From 1989 to 1991 he was professor of Old Testament Studies at the Sprachenkonvikt Berlin (at the now defunct Church University Berlin) and 1991 to 1993 professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Since 1993 he has been Professor of Old Testament at the Theological Seminary of Wuppertal. The Office of the Rector, he became in the years 1997-98 and 2005-06.

Archaeological education and academic way

Director of archaeological institutes

Since 1999 Vieweger is director of the Biblical Archaeological Institute Wuppertal. The BAI Wuppertal particular encourage geophysical prospection in archeology, terrestrial photogrammetry, archaeometry (focus on the history of technology research of antique crafts ) and the Experimental Archaeology. The most significant archaeological project ( ' Gadara Region Project ') began in 2001 and includes the exploration of the Wadi el-Arab and the excavation on 5,000-year- populated settlement mound Tall Zira'a in the triangle of Jordan, Syria, Israel.

The German Protestant Institute of Archaeology in the Holy Land ( DEI ) Vieweger was closely associated since 1992. Since 2005 he has been Executive Director of the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology in the Holy Land in Jerusalem and Amman. The Institute founded in 1900, was led in its long history of such famous scientists such as Gustaf Dalman, Albrecht Alt and Martin Noth. In March 2007, a very close cooperation between the German Archaeological Institute and the DEI was launched with a ceremony at the Foreign Office in Berlin. Thus, the DEI was also Research Centre of the German Archaeological Institute.

Commissioned by the Evangelical Church in Germany

Vieweger is Deputy Provost of the Evangelical congregation German language to Jerusalem and coordinates the educational work on behalf of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD ) in Israel. During the change between two officials, he took over in 2012 for a few months, the Office of the Provost in Jerusalem.

Excavation projects in the Orient

Dieter Vieweger is / was head of various archaeological research projects in Jordan, Israel and Italy. This work was performed in large part on behalf of the Biblical Archaeological Institute Wuppertal, including:
