Diethylaminosulfurtrifluoride (usually abbreviated as DAST ) is an organosulfur compound.
Production and representation
Diethylaminosulfur trifluoride can be obtained by reaction of sulfur tetrafluoride and diethylaminotrimethylsilane.
Properties
Diethylaminosulfurtrifluoride is a yellow liquid with a pungent odor, which decomposes in water and when heated; decomposition begins at about 50 ° C and at 90 ° C runs stormy.
Use
Diethylaminosulphur trifluoride is used in the organic chemistry as a mild fluorinating agent. With his help, for example, alcohols and aldehydes can be converted into the respective mono- or Difluoride. Furthermore, it is possible to synthesize from thioethers or sulfoxides, the corresponding α - Fluorthioether. Partial is the addition of catalytic amounts of antimony or zinc chloride advantage.
It also serves as the catalyst in Friedel -Crafts allylation.
Safety
On contact with water, when heated above 90 ° C and at a stormy distillation can occur to explosive decomposition. Safe handling is possible only below 50 ° C and in solution. If skin or eye contact of the flammable liquid causes severe burns are possible.
