Dietrich III, Count of Cleves

Dietrich III. / V. (* 1160-1170; † no later than 1202) is 1173-1193 definite evidence as Count of Kleve. While he is ( sometimes referred to as Dietrich IV ) designated in the earlier research as V. Dietrich, he is the younger, based on Kraus research, as Dietrich III. counted.

Life

Dietrich was a son of Count Dietrich II. / IV. born of Cleves and his wife Adelheid of Sulzbach.

When his father's death in 1172 he was still a child. In 1182 he married Margaret of Holland ( Gerulfinger ); their son followed his father as Count Dietrich IV. / VI. of Cleves.

According to unreliable sources Dietrich III aims. / V. 1198 have been involved in the founding of the Teutonic Knights in Acre. He probably came in the Holy Land killed.
