Dietrich Schenk von Erbach

Dietrich ( Theodoric ) Schenk von Erbach (* 1390, † May 6, 1459 in Aschaffenburg ) was 1434-1459 Archbishop of Mainz.

Life

He was born the son of Eberhard of Erbach of Rabshakeh. First canon of Mainz, he was elected by the chapter of Mainz on July 6, 1434 the new archbishop. Pope Eugene IV confirmed him on 20 October of the same year in office.

In the confusion of the Council of Basel Dietrich moved into a neutral stance and tried to mediate between the parties. He recommended that the German princes to remain neutral.
