Life

Dietrich was the eldest son of the second marriage, Count Dietrich IV. / VI. of Cleves with Hedwig of Meissen and was born around 1226. Originally it was not intended for the Count Office; but with the untimely death of his older half-brother Dietrich primogenitus († 1245 ), he moved in after the succession. Since 1255 he reigned already self Hülchrath and the southern parts of the county Kleve, 1260 until he took up his father's legacy. Since 1255 he was married to Aleidis of Heinberg, the extensive possessions brought into the marriage ( Hülchrath and Saffenburg ). Dietrich V. / VII. had temporarily come to terms with his younger brother Dietrich Luf, who could not hold as Count of Saarbrücken. Under Dietrich V. / VII. Dinslaken, Orsoy, Buederich and perhaps Huissen and Kranenburg was awarded city rights. After his death he was probably buried in the monastery church of Bedburg.
