Diex

Diex (pronounced DIEX; slow: Djekše. ) Is a municipality with 801 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of peoples market in Carinthia.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in southeastern Carinthia on the southern slope of the Saualpe high above the Jaun Valley and the Lavant valley.

Community structure

The municipality is divided into the four cadastral Diexerberg, Grafenbach, Haimburgerberg and Obergreutschach. The municipal area covers seven villages ( population figures as at 31 October 2011):

History

Diex was mentioned in a deed of King Arnulf 895 for the first time as " mons Diehse ".

Due to its favorable climatic conditions, the current municipal area was settled very early and subsequently split between several manors. In the 15th century, the churches of Diex and Grafenbach were expanded due to the Turkish threat to fortified churches.

The municipality was formed in 1865 from the existing local communities since 1850 and Diexerberg Haimburgerberg. The municipality changed in 1973, fell as parts of the disbanded community Haimburg and handles to Diex.

Population

According to the 2001 census Diex has 863 inhabitants, of which 99.2 % are Austrian citizens. 6.8 % belong to the Slovene-speaking minority.

For the Roman Catholic church 97 % of the community population profess. Without religious confession are 2%.

Structures

  • Weir to Diexer cemetery and parish church

To the cemetery and church marveled at the visitor a remarkable early modern, about 5 m high perimeter wall on irregular, hexagonal floor plan, as well as at the bends to the east and west three-quarters round towers. In the northeast corner is a trapezoidal gate construction with loopholes. About the profiled portal emblazoned a late Gothic Crucifixion ( emergence around 1515 ), the gatehouse itself is barrel vaulted, walled on the portal outside is a stone showing the " Schwurhand Odin " on the cemetery side denoted by 1535 ( construction is completed ), and the door has shooting holes on. On the inside of the perimeter wall runs a wooden covered, well-preserved battlements with shield wall and throw column that can be covered by movable bar.

Policy

Parish council

The council consists of 11 members and is as follows since the municipal elections in 2009 together:

  • 3 FPK

Directly elected mayor Anton Polessnig (ÖVP ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Diex shows " In Blue Shield of golden ring wall, a twin-towered church with golden roof rider on the First Choral growing; Stone slab roofs of the Wall and Church drawn in black, roof lights helmet black. " It is the fortified church of St. Martin is, which served as a motive before the ceremony in the coat of arms seal of the municipality.

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on October 22, 1969. The flag is blue-yellow - black with integrated crest.
