Diffuse reflection

As a diffused light is known in the light guide, a "soft " light that illuminates the scene evenly and contrast or low shadowing. Diffuse light is produced at the surface light sources. This can be artificial light with light modifiers such as umbrellas, softboxes or reflections on walls but also natural light as a cloud cover, fog or light under trees. The Agency for Technical Relief often used the "Power Moon" mentioned lighting balloons.

Diffuse light reduces the contrast by shadows and thus raises the significance of the colors in the scene for the image design. For portraits, it reduces the drawing of folds ( Beauty Light), in the life photography it avoids highlights on reflective edges and deep, dark shadows.
