Digital Sky Technologies

Mail.ru Group (formerly Digital Sky Technologies, DST) is a Russian investment firm based in Moscow owned by billionaire Alisher Usmanov, Yuri Milner and Gregory Finger. The company is one of the largest investors in the Russian and Eastern European internet market. The Mail.ru Group operates some of the biggest Russian sites, such as Mail.Ru, Vkontakte.ru or Forticom.

History

In September 2010, the company Digital Sky Technologies (DST ) in Mail.ru Group renamed.

Economic Situation

IPO in November 2010

With the initial placement of its shares on the London Stock Exchange in early November 2010, Mail.ru Group generated approximately $ 912 million. The unit price of the offered 33 million shares ( 17 percent of the share capital ) amounted to $ 27.7, meaning the Group is valued at a total of $ 5.71 billion.

Investments

Part of the yield on the IPO in London means invested Mail.ru Group in mid-November 2010 in the purchase of an additional 7.5 percent of the shares of Vkontakte.ru and thus increased its share of the Russian online network to 32.5 percent.

Apart from their participation of approximately 10 percent of Facebook Inc. and Vkontakte.ru the Mail.ru Group owns, among others, 1.47 percent of Zynga, Groupon 5.13 percent and is also involved in a Russian payment service. In April 2010, the Company acquired for $ 188 million the Instant Messager ICQ AOL.

Since August 2011, the Mail.ru Group holds 400 million dollars in Twitter Inc..
