The Dyle in Mechelen

The Dyle ( Dutch) or Dyle (French, including the former Dutch spelling) or tile ( Walloon ) is a Belgian river that flows through the provinces of Walloon Brabant, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp. It rises with Houtain -le- Val, the suburbs of the Walloon Brabant - Genappe city on the southern border of the former province of Brabant, which flows through the cities Ottignies, Wavre, Leuven and Mechelen. After 86 km it unites near Rumst with the Nete for Rupel.

While the union of Belgium with France in the years 1797-1814 there was a department of the Dyle with Brussels as its capital. Its territory corresponded largely to the later Belgian province of Brabant.

Along the river Dyle was the " KW- line," a defensive position from the 1930s, similar to the Western Wall on the German side. A series of fortifications have survived until today.
