Dikili

Dikili is a county and the accompanying county town in the Turkish province of Izmir. The district is located in the north of the province on the Aegean coast, bordering the province of Balıkesir. Distance to Izmir is about 100 km, 2010, the city had 17,088 inhabitants, the district 33,021.

The former name of the village was Dikmelik ( " nursery " ), after the family Karaosmanoğlu in the 18th century there einrichtete a nursery.

In the time of the Ottoman Empire Dikili was the port of Bergama, today put there cruise ships to visit the ancient Pergamon. The place is frequented by a Turkish resort of travelers, but boast themselves no sights. About Diklili the finds from the German Pergamon Excavations with the station ship of the German Embassy Loreley to Smyrna ( İzmir ) and were further shipped to Germany at the end of the 19th century.
