Dimethoate is a chemical compound that is widely used as an insecticide. It belongs to the dithiophosphoric acid esters (also known as alkyl phosphates or ' organic ' phosphates, but not organophosphates ). Insecticides of this group act as contact poisons. Phosphoric acid esters such as other dimethoate inhibits the enzyme cholinesterase, which has an essential function in the nervous system.
