Dimitri Kipiani

Dimitri Qipiani (Georgian დიმიტრი ყიფიანი; *. 14.jul / June 26 1814greg in Mereti, Inner Kartli, .. . † 24 Oktoberjul / November 5 1887greg in Stavropol ) was a Georgian writer, landlords and senior official in the administration of Russian viceroy in the Caucasus.

Life and work

Qipiani was commissioned by the Viceroy trying to find a way to rid the Georgian serfs. His plan, however, was poor: a serf should receive no property, but continue to build on the foundation of their masters and pay rent for this land use in return.

Quipiani was also active as a writer. He wrote stories and poems ( The Mtazminda of Qwischcheti, reply of an old friend ), published translations and literary-historical writings. In 1882 he issued a new Georgian grammar.
