Dimitrovgrad [ ˌ dimitrov ɡrat ] ( Bulgarian Димитровград ) is a Bulgarian town located in the oblast Haskovo.

Geography
Dimitrovgrad is located in the south of the country, 78 km to the east of Plovdiv, and is in Bulgarian lowlands near the river Maritsa.

History
Dimitrovgrad is a relatively young industrial city. It was founded on 10 May 1947. On the territory of the city at that time, there were three villages Rakowski, Marino and Tschernokoniowo. In the years 1948-50 a completely new city was through youth brigades from across the country, which included a total of 50,000 people, built from the ground. Dimitrovgrad was a start-up as a model of a socialist city, such as, for example, ironworks town in the GDR or Komsomolsk in the Soviet Union. The city was named after the former Bulgarian politician and Prime Minister Georgi Dimitrov.
