Dinaburg FC

The FC Dinaburg Daugavpils was a Latvian football club, which was disbanded after the disclosure of match-fixing.

History

The club was founded in 1990 as Celtnieks Daugavpils. 1991, in the first season of Virsliga fourth place was achieved. By a 3-1 win on penalties against Skonto Riga, the club won the Latvian Cup. In 1992, the club as BJFK Daugavpils, from 1993 under the name Auseklis to Daugavpils. The team ended during which each places in midfield. As Vilán Daugavpils succeeded in 1995, fourth place.

Since 1996, the club got its present name. Third place was occupied with 26 points behind champions Skonto Riga in the league. The first appearance on the international stage in the first round of the UEFA Cup, the club failed after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Barrytown by a 1-2 home defeat.

1997 Dinaburg reached the cup final. The third season had to be there but Master Skonto Riga defeated. Since 1998 Dinaburg consistently placed at fourth place in the first division, respectively. 2001 Cup final was reached again, in turn, Skonto Riga proved to be too strong.

First match fixing

On 15 March 2007 the team was excluded from the current season of the Baltic League on suspicion of match-fixing. The day before the away game against the Estonian representative JK Trans Narva was lost with 0:2.

Exclusion from the championship

After the 2008 season, FC Daugava Daugavpils merged with the club, the name FC Dinaburg was obtained in this case. A year later, the FC Dinaburg was subsequently excluded because of the manipulation of games from the Championship in 2009 and set to the last place.
