Dino De Laurentiis

Dino De Laurentiis ( born: Agostino de Laurentiis; born August 8, 1919 in Torre Annunziata, † November 10, 2010 in Los Angeles, USA ) was an Italian film producer.

Life

De Laurentiis was married twice. From July 1949 until her death in December 1989, was the actress Silvana Mangano De Laurentiis ' wife. The two had four children; three daughters and a son. Veronica De Laurentiis ( born 1950 ) is now an actress; Raffaella De Laurentiis (born 1954 ) is a film producer like her father; Francesca De Laurentiis ( born 1961 ) is also active as a film maker. Son Federico De Laurentiis, who was also active as a film producer came in 1981, at the age of 26, in a plane crash.

In April 1990, married Dino De Laurentiis film producer Martha Schumacher. With her he had two daughters Carolyna De Laurentiis (* 1988) and Dina De Laurentiis (* 1990), who work as actresses.

His nephew, Aurelio De Laurentiis is a film producer and now president of the football club SSC Napoli.

Career

De Laurentiis was next to Carlo Ponti the most successful Italian film producer. He left at the age of seventeen years, the school in order to get into the film business. In 1938 he played for the first time as an actor in a movie. After military service in the Italian army during World War II began his career as a film producer. His first big international hit was the film Bitter Rice by Giuseppe De Santis from 1949; the leading role played Silvana Mangano, the De Laurentiis still married in the same year.

In 2004 he founded as a joint venture, the CLA Studios in Ouarzazate, Morocco, together with Cinecittà Holding and Sanam.

Awards

De Laurentiis received five David di Donatello for his films. He received the award for his life's work at the International Film Festival in Venice in 2000 and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at the Academy Awards. He also won the Academy Award as producer for Federico Fellini's La Strada - The song of the road.
