Dinotopia (miniseries)

Dinotopia is a three-part mini-series from 2002 based on a novel series of U.S. author and illustrator James Gurney. Based on the May 2002 broadcast on ABC miniseries ( German Original Air Date: 5 November 2002 RTL) also a television series was created, but this was discontinued after six sequels.

Action

In a plane crash in the sea separately grown half brothers Charles and David are separated from their common father. They are washed up on an island which turns out to be Dinotopia.

Dinotopia is a backward technically piece of land that has remained completely undiscovered by the world today, although it is several square kilometers in size. The dinosaurs are not extinct in this part of the world and to have even the ability to speak. Part 1

The first part is mainly described, as Karl and David are stranded on the island and settle. They learn first Cyrus Crabb, an ominous archaeologists, then Marion, the daughter of the mayor of Waterfall City and thus succeeded in the political system, and finally Zippo, a bipedal dinosaur, know, offer them their friendship.

TV Series

Due to the success of the three -part mini-series, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC ) ordered a regular, one-hour television series. In order to protect the budget new actors were hired for the series and moved the filming to Hungary. Delays in the production of the series did not start as planned in September, but only the end of November 2002. After starting already very modest viewership declined steadily, so that only six episodes for broadcasting came before ABC took the series in late December from the program.

As contractually agreed, however, 13 episodes were completed, which were fully aired, among other licensees abroad. The complete series of Artisan Entertainment was released in the U.S. and Canada on DVD in January 2004.
