Diocese of Llandaff

The Diocese of Llandaff (Latin: Dioecesis Landavensis ) is a diocese of the Anglican Church in Wales based in Llandaff. Until the English Reformation, it was a Roman Catholic diocese.

History

The Diocese of Llandaff was built in 560. The construction of the cathedral was begun in 1120 and completed at the end of the 12th century. The last Roman Catholic bishop, George Athequa OP, resigned in February 1537.

The Catholic Diocese of Llandaff was the archbishopric of Canterbury, is a suffragan.

After the English Reformation, the diocese of Llandaff belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Canterbury Church of England, to the Welsh Anglican Church in 1920 became independent as the Church in Wales.
