Diocese of Skara

The Diocese of Skara (Swedish Skara pin ) is one of the thirteen dioceses within the Church of Sweden. It consists of 178 parishes ( församlingar ), which are grouped into eleven church circles.

The diocese was founded in 1014 and is the oldest diocese of Sweden. Geographically extends the diocese over the former province of Skaraborg County as well as parts of the former province Älvsborgs County, the County of Jonkoping County. Bishop's seat is the city of Skara Cathedral Skara with the Church as a bishop. From 2004 to 2012, the Göttingen professor of theology Erik Aurelius was Bishop of Skara. Acting Bishop 's since August 2012, the former provost Åke Bonnier Stockholm the Younger.
