Diocese of St David's

The Diocese of Saint David's (Latin: Dioecesis Menevensis ) is a diocese of the Anglican Church in Wales based in St Davids. Until the English Reformation, it was a Roman Catholic diocese.

History

The Diocese of Saint David's was built in the 6th century. First bishop was David. Under Bishop Peter de Leia was begun with the construction of the cathedral.

The last Roman Catholic bishop, Henry Morgan, was deposed in 1559 by Queen Elizabeth I. Bishop Henry Morgan died in December of the same year.

The Catholic Diocese of Saint David's was the archbishopric of Canterbury, is a suffragan.

After the English Reformation, the diocese of Saint David's belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Canterbury Church of England, to the Welsh Anglican Church in 1920 became independent as the Church in Wales.
