Diocese of Ypres

The Diocese of Ypres (Latin: Dioecesis Yprensis seu Iprensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese based in Ypres in today's Belgian-French border area.

History

Pope Paul IV founded the bishopric with the Bull Super Universas on May 12, 1559 from annexations of the dioceses of Tournai and Therouanne and became the Archdiocese of Mechelen assumed as suffragan.

After the Concordat of 1801, the diocese was incorporated on 29 November 1801 in the diocese of Ghent. Ypres is a titular since 1969.
