Diogo de Silves

Diogo de Silves was a Portuguese navigator and explorer of the 15th century, the Azores island of Santa Maria and most likely São Miguel discovered in 1427 on the return trip from Madeira.

Little is known about his identity. His surname suggests an origin from the town of Silves in the Algarve, especially among the first explorers some of the area came. His name was listed on a map of the Catalans Gabriel de Valsequa from the year 1439.
