Dionne Brand

Dionne Brand ( born January 7, 1953, the island of Trinidad ) is a Canadian writer.

Life

Dionne Brand is from Trinidad and Tobago. The dark-skinned fire came in 1970 to Canada to study here at the University of Toronto English and Philosophy. Sets you up for the rights of minorities, especially black women, a. In addition to her literary career as a poet and writer of short stories, she also writes fiction and makes documentaries. Fire taught at various universities. Especially in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century it was active socially in various institutions for the rights of black women in Canada and elsewhere, in trade unions and anti-racism associations. In 1983, she supported the revolution on the Caribbean island of Grenada, where they had to be evacuated after the American invasion. In 1991 she toured Europe and South Africa, where she supported Nelson Mandela. In 1997 she received the Governor General's Award for Poetry and the Trillium Book Award, the 2006 Toronto Book Awards and the 2011 Griffin Poetry Prize ( for ossuaries ). She lives near Toronto. In German language there are virtually no prior translations.
