Dip Prasad Pun

Dip Prasad Pun (* 1981 ) is a British Gurkha with the rank of Sergeant. He received in 2012 the Nepalese as the first soldier in the service of the British crown, the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross Medal for Bravery, the second highest award of the British armed forces.

Pun alone resisted an attack by at least a dozen Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Pun was alone as a guard at a checkpoint near Babaji in Helmand province on 17 September 2011. To repel the attack he fired more than 400 rounds, threw 17 grenades and brought an M18 Claymore explosion that killed two Taliban attackers. As a last attacker tried to climb up his position, had his gun jammed and he slew him with the tripod of his machine gun. He thus saved the lives of his comrades who were inside the checkpoint.

Pun stems from Western Nepal. Also Puns father and grandfather had already served in the British Army.
